Open Studio is a super fun drop-in creative time for kids. Every project we offer is an invitation to create – meaning we present your child with the materials and allow them the freedom to interpret those materials as they choose within a safe, non-judgmental environment.

Playing and interacting with the materials is encouraged! Collaboration is awesome! A studio employee is on site to guide children and replenish supplies, but there is no instruction offered during Open Studio. This time is strictly child-led and imagination driven.

The Detriments Of Gangs, Drugs And Violence @ Kankakee Public Library
Jul 20 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
The Detriments Of Gangs, Drugs And Violence @ Kankakee Public Library | Kankakee | Illinois | United States

Life is all about choices, right or wrong; good or bad; our destinies will unfold according to the choices we make. So we will be providing the youth with some important information about the consequences and repercussions of using drugs, joining gangs, committing violence and/or becoming a victim of violence. We must continue to provide the youth with information that will create options so that they can make informed choices, choices they can be proud of. Making these choices will help strengthen and build character as well as foster hope, when they are able to see a path to success. We want to inspire our youth to stay focused on, planning for and looking forward to a positive, productive and successful future. Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

CALL FOR ART Women in Relation
Exhibition: October 6 – November 30
Submission Deadline: Friday, Sept 6

Relationships, I believe, are truly sacred, not in the superficial meaning of simply being high in value, but in that they call upon infinite and mysterious depths in ourselves, in our communities,
and in the very nature of things.

Calling all Women Artists!
The Gretchen Charlton Art Gallery is partnering with the Pregnancy Resource Center to explore “ourselves, communities, and the very nature of things” through women’s relationships. The GCAG and the PRC share similar visions to build relationships and initiate conversations. Join us as we focus our attention on women’s voices.
We are seeking work that represents any relationship with significant threads in your existence. e.g. relationship with the self, children, partner, parents, friends, rivals, communities (real or virtual), country, the environment, the divine, or lack thereof.

Acceptable mediums include photography, painting, printmaking, drawing, collage, and wall hung sculpture. A one-page artist statement is requested. This gives additional information to the viewer challenging them to investigate and question their own belief system. When submitting work, please keep in mind that the GCAG is in a senior communal home and welcomes visitors of all ages. Submissions will be juried through collaboration with the PRC and the GCAG.
The PRC provides sexual health education for women and their partners to make informed decisions concerning
the whole person.

How to Submit:
Please email up to three images for consideration with one detail picture, if necessary, to Victoria Strole by Friday, Sept 6. Notifications on accepted work will be sent out by Sept 13.
victoria.strole@ascension.org

Delivery:
All accepted work must be dropped off or received by mail between Wed, Sept 25 – Mon, Sept 30. We will accept work 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Gretchen Charlton Art Gallery
901 N Entrance Ave, Kankakee, IL 60915

Volunteers Needed:
In conjunction with the “Women in Relation” exhibition, we are partnering with the PRC to be an underwriter for their 2020 Valentine’s fundraiser. We are seeking 15 artists or groups to paint rocking chairs that will be auctioned at the event. The rocking chairs are part of a support program for women who have lost a child.

If you are interested in participating, please submit a written proposal outlining your style and design idea for Aug 16. Sample images of current work and sketches of design plans should accompany the proposal. There will be a variety of chair shapes, which will be posted on our Facebook page and on view at the GCAG. We will do our best to get artist the chair they request. All notifications of accepted artists will be sent out by Aug 23.
Artists must pick up chairs from gallery and return them by Sept 23.

We will accept work 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
